 Â
AKERS SAYS: "This is going to be a unique and fun event," said head coach Michael Akers. "The Medinah Country Club has a rich tradition of hosting some of the top events in the world. We feel blessed to receive the invitation from the University of Illinois and to play Medinah against some of the best teams in the country.
"We have been out to Denton Country Club to prepare on Bent grass greens. DCC is also tree lined, which we will see in Chicago. It will be important to hit extra chips in the practice round to get acclimated to the bluegrass rough."
MOVING UP: UNT has made significant strides since Akers took over eight years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are now consistently ranked in the top 50 nationally and have qualified for four straight NCAA Regionals - the only active AAC team with at least four consecutive NCAA berths.
UP NEXT:Â The Mean Green will next head down I-35 to wrap up the fall schedule at the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 20-21.
Â
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to have the new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, which is a $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
