
Volleyball Falls at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UNT volleyball fell in a 3-0 sweep at UAB on Friday night inside Bartow Arena.
The Mean Green (8-14, 5-6) dropped its four-consecutive American Athletic Conference loss in its three-set (21-25, 15-25, 18-25) contest against the Blazers (9-13, 4-7). The loss marks the second road defeat at UAB in program history and first since Oct. 18, 2013.
Set one swung back-and-forth for the Mean Green with 12 tied scores including overcoming a four-point deficit early in the frame. Junior Payton Van Veen leveled the score with a clutch kill at 20-20 before the Blazers closed the first on a 5-1 run.
Van Veen led the Mean Green with seven kills on 20 attacks.
In the second, UNT were unable to find stable footing after UAB rode an early seven-point run to the 25-15 victory.
The hotly contested third set featured five lead changes, all of which took place after the Mean Green built an 8-4 lead with kills from Van Veen and Aryn Johnson along with an ace from Reagan Bedell. The Blazers closed with an 11-3 run to finish the sweep.

The Mean Green finish its road weekend at Memphis on Sunday for the program's first-ever visit to the Larry O. Finch Center at noon. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
