The Mean Green will face rematch of season finale against Rice
WICHITA, Kan. – UNT volleyball will meet Rice in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
The match will be streamed on ESPN+ from Charles Koch Arena with tickets available HERE.
Friday will mark UNT's (10-17, 7-9) third match of the season against Rice (18-7, 13-3) and fifth between the two programs since each joined The American ahead of the 2023 season. The Mean Green hold a 3-1 mark over the Owls in the past two years, including a five-set win on Sunday at the UNT Volleyball Center.
In a true do-or-die scenario, UNT closed the regular season with five-set wins over Wichita State on Friday and Rice on Sunday to claim the No. 7 seed at the AAC Championship.
Senior Coco Gillett led the offense in Sunday's match versus the Owls with 16 kills while collecting a .485 hitting percentage, the highest mark of her five-year collegiate career, with zero errors on 33 attacks.
Despite recent success, UNT trails the all-time series 9-20 including a 3-1 loss in its only conference tournament meeting at the 2018 CUSA Championship.
As a program, the Mean Green have made 15-consecutive conference tournaments, dating back to 2009, after The American reinstituted its league championship event this season. UNT holds a record of 21-37 in conference tournament matches with an 0-2 mark as the No. 7 seed facing a No. 2 seed.
