Moore Leads UNT to 78-54 Win Over Texas Southern

North Texas had four players in double figures on the night
DENTON, Texas – Jaaucklyn Moore scored 20 points to lead all players in the UNT women's basketball team's 78-54 victory over Texas Southern Thursday night.
Moore became the fourth different Mean Green player to score 20 points in a game this season behind a 4-of-5 effort from behind the arc. Desiree Wooten, Ereauna Hardaway and Tommisha Lampkin joined Moore in double figures for North Texas as Wooten posted 16 points and Hardaway matched a career high with 15 points. Lampkin recorded her second double double of the season and fourth consecutive dating back to last season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
"I think it's awesome that we've had four different players in two games have 20-plus points," head coach Jason Burton said. "It shows we're going to be a tough team to guard."
Texas Southern came out and took an early lead in large part due to seven turnovers in the first quarter by North Texas. But after allowing the Tigers to score 21 points in the first 10 minutes, UNT held them to a combined 17 points over the next two quarters.
UNT took its first lead of the game at the 7:04 mark in the second quarter during an 11-0 run in which Moore had nine of her own. The Mean Green went on to outscore Texas Southern 21-5 in the quarter, taking a 35-26 lead into the locker room.
UNT's defense continued to force Texas Southern into uncomfortable situations in the second half. The Mean Green the Tigers into 14 second-half turnovers, which led to 16 points.
North Texas also took seven charges on the defensive end, while holding Texas Southern to 31% shooting on the night.
UNT will look to remain unbeaten when it hits the road for the first time this season to take on Oregon in Eugene on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
