Mean Green shoot season-low 24% in loss
EUGENE, Ore. – No. 25 Oregon handed the UNT women's basketball team its first loss of the 2024-25 season, 66-35, Tuesday in Eugene.
Despite holding the Ducks to a season low in points, the Mean Green offense could not find its rhythm, shooting 24% for the game, the lowest mark of the Jason Burton era.
"They played really good defense, but we have to be more aggressive," Burton said. "I credit our team for trying to execute, but in a game like this you have to shoot the shots when you're open."
The Mean Green found themselves in a deep hole early mustering only four points in the first quarter and nine points in the first half. North Texas was held to just 11% shooting in what was the lowest scoring first half by a UNT team since at least the 2009-10 season.
Tommisha Lampkin led the Mean Green with six points and six rebounds, while four others had five points, including Gwendlyn McGrew who scored her first collegiate points. Oregon's leading scorers, Nani Falatea and Elisa Mevius, finished with 11 points, while their leading scorer entering the game, Deja Kelly, was held to seven points on 3-of-9 shooting.
North Texas will continue its road stand with a contest at Abilene Christian Saturday at 12 p.m. CT.
