Lampkin posted the 20th double double of her career in the win
ABILENE, Texas – Tommisha Lampkin posted her third double double of the season to lead the UNT women's basketball team to a 71-60 over Abilene Christian at Moody Coliseum on Saturday.
The senior forward continued to climb the program's career records in multiple categories in her 22-point, 13-rebound performance. In addition to her 20th career double double that tied her for seventh most in UNT history, her first of three blocks gave her 100 for her career.
Abilene Christian was able to jump out to an early lead while the Mean Green's shooting struggles continued from their previous game. The Mean Green shot 30% from the field in the first quarter, which put them behind by three after the quarter.
The momentum of the game swung to North Texas during a 10-0 run in the early minutes of the second quarter in which UNT took its first lead of the game and never gave it back. Eight points from Lampkin in the quarter and a total of eight first-half scorers led UNT to a 38-26 lead at halftime.
Abilene Christian was able to cut UNT's lead to three with 5:08 left in the fourth quarter but clutch free throw shooting and defense closed out the Wildcats. North Texas held ACU to 35% shooting for the game and tallied seven blocks, including Lampkin's three and a pair from Kyla Deck.
Through its first three games, UNT was one of the nation's leading teams in getting to the free throw line, but had only converted 58.2% of its attempts. Against ACU, the Mean Green were solid from the charity stripe knocking down 72%, going 16-of-22 for the game.
Ereauna Hardaway and Jaaucklyn Moore each scored in double figures for the Mean Green to complement Lampkin. Hardaway neared a career high with 13 points, including seven in the third quarter, while Moore had eight first-half points and finished with 10 for the game.
With the win, UNT improves to 3-1 for the second consecutive season under Jason Burton, something the Mean Green had managed to do twice in the previous 10 seasons before Burton's arrival.
The Mean Green will look to improve upon their start when they host Northwestern State Wednesday at The Super Pit at 6 p.m. CT.
