
Volleyball Suffers Four-Set Loss Friday

DENTON, Texas – After collecting a first set win, Mean Green volleyball fell 3-1 to Florida Atlantic on Friday night at the UNT Volleyball Center.
UNT (8-16, 5-8) collected a season-high mark of 13 service aces in its four-set loss (25-22, 22-25, 24-26, 15-25) to the Owls (15-10, 7-6). The Mean Green recorded the fifth-most team aces in the 25-point rally scoring era which began in 2008.
After Friday's loss, UNT dropped to 10th place in the American Athletic Conference standings with three matches remaining in the season. The top eight teams in the conference will claim a berth to the AAC Volleyball Championship.
The connection between middle blocker Ryann Vik and setter Kamryn Scroggins shined in the match's opening frame as Vik dropped five kills on six attacks while Scroggins tallied 13 assists in an adjusted offensive rotation.
The Mean Green moved to 6-2 when winning the first set and 32-6 in the Porter era.
For the match, Scroggins set a new UNT career-high mark of 42 assists and tied for the third-most in her collegiate career. She added a match high 19 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.
Vik finished with seven kills on 10 attacks for a .700 hitting percentage, the highest of her young career on 10-plus attacks. She also contributed three aces, two blocks and one dig.
Payton Van Veen led the Mean Green with 16 kills while Aryn Johnson and Coco Gillett each posted double-digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively.
