Freshman Chania Price posted a career high 10 points to lead UNT
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The UNT women's basketball team saw its three-game win streak snapped in a 75-58 loss at New Mexico on Sunday afternoon.
The Mean Green fell behind early, giving up 28 points in the first quarter – the most allowed in any quarter this season. UNT's defense buckled down in the second quarter holding New Mexico to 11 points, but could not get into an offensive rhythm as it trailed 39-20 at the half.
North Texas fought hard coming out of the locker room behind early runs to start the third and fourth quarters. The deficit was cut down to 11 points with four minutes left in the third quarter and got to as close as 10 with eight minutes left in the fourth.
However, each time the Mean Green seemed to get within striking distance, UNM answered with a run of its own to extend its lead.
New Mexico's Destinee Hooks and Viane Cumber led all scorers with 19 points apiece, while true freshman Chania Price was the leading scorer for UNT with a career-high 10 points.
UNT, who fell to 5-2 on the season, will look to get back in the win column Wednesday morning when it hosts Tennessee State at 11 a.m. CT inside The Super Pit. Students from around the DFW area will be attending the game as part of the program's Education Day.
