Smith Earns DCTF Second Team All-Texas Honors

Senior from Ontario, Canada honored for stellar final season
DENTON, Texas - Senior LB Jaylen Smith has been honored for his stellar play on the field in 2024, being named to the Dave Cambpell's Texas Football All-Texas Team, the publication announced Tuesday.
Smith, who leads UNT in tackles, tackles for loss and quarterback hurries, was named to the Second Team.
The former walk-on who started his career as a defensive back finished the regular season with 97.0 tackles, 7.5 TFLs and 11 QB hurries. Smith closed the season on a tear, posting double-digit tackles in three of the final five games of the year, including a career-high 16 tackles in the contest against East Carolina.
A senior from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Smith needs three more tackles in the First Responder Bowl to become the first Canadian since Amen Ogbongbemiga in 2019 to post 100+ tackles at the FBS level.
Smith has broken out in 2024, posting career-highs in tackles, TFLs and pass breakups. In his career, Smith has posted 151 tackles, 12.5 TFLs, two interceptions and four passes defended.
