DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team will look to begin American Athletic Conference play with a road win against Wichita State on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
It will be the first of two meetings this season between the teams as Wichita State will make a return trip to Denton on Jan. 18. The programs have only met three times before with the Shockers earning victories in the first two, while North Texas rallied from an 18-point deficit in the second half to earn its first win in the series by a score of 72-68 last season.
The Mean Green enter conference play with an 8-4 record, following a split at the Evan Moore Classic. North Texas suffered its first loss inside The Super Pit on Dec. 19, falling to SMU, 74-66, before bouncing back with an 83-57 victory over Chicago State.
While North Texas was chosen to finish second in the AAC Preseason Coaches Poll, Wichita State was projected to finish in 12th place garnering 32 votes. The Shockers went 6-7 during nonconference play with a loss to Oral Roberts in their finale that snapped a three-game win streak.
Sunday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can also be heard on the Varsity Network App with Zac Babb on the call.
