DENTON - Junior wide receiver and return specialist DT Sheffield led a Mean Green contingent of six on the 2024 All-AAC team, the conference announced on Tuesday.
For the second straight year, UNT landed six players on the team, but Sheffield was the lone first-team selection and the first for the Mean Green as a member of The American.
Sheffield was named a first-team wide receiver and also landed on the third team as a return specialist. Junior quarterback Chandler Morris earned second-team honors and seniors Jaylen Smith and Ridge Texada both earned third-team nods at linebacker and cornerback, respectively. Senior defensive lineman Roderick Brown and senior offensive lineman Landon Peterson were both honorable mention selections.

He averaged better than 12 yards per punt return and 21.2 yards per kickoff return. His 11 receiving touchdowns ties him for fifth nationally in FBS with four other players. Sheffield is also ninth among receivers in all of FBS in all-purpose yards at 99.3 per game.
Morris made the most of his debut season in Denton by piloting one of the most explosive offenses in the country. UNT ranks third nationally in total offense and sixth in passing offense. Meanwhile, Morris ranks among the best in FBS in completions per game (3rd), passing yards (5th), passing touchdowns (3rd), passing yards per game (5th), points responsible for (7th) and total offense (4th). He's also an underrated runner, with 242 yards and four scores on the ground.
Smith and Texada, both third-team selections, were senior leaders on the Mean Green defense, as Smith led the team in tackles with 97.0, including 7.5 tackles for-loss. He also had an interception and two pass breakups. Texada has 36.0 tackles, including 1.5 behind the line, a forced fumble and an interception. His eight pass breakups led the team and extended his program record, as did his nine passes defended.
The honorable mention list included Brown, who totaled 26.0 tackles, including 6.5 behind the line - tied for second on the team. His 4.5 sacks was the most on the team. Peterson also earned honorable mention after starting the first two games of the season at right guard before shifting over to right tackle and making eight starts there over the last nine games.
