DENTON – The UNT men's basketball team defeated (RV) Memphis 76-66 at the Super Pit Thursday night. North Texas made a season-high 16 3-pointers in the 10-point win.
The Mean Green (14-10, 7-5) were led in scoring by sophomore Jason Edwards who scored a game-high 30-points and was 7-of-9 from deep. Edwards made his first seven 3-point attempts.
It's his fourth 30-point game this season and the second time he's started a game making seven straight 3s.
UNT was 16-28 from deep against the Tigers (18-7, 7-5) Thursday night.
"We have a lot of respect for Memphis and of course coach Hardaway," said Mean Green head coach Ross Hodge. "I think you get performances like tonight when you have respect for an opponent like that. I have a lot of respect for them, for David Jones, for Jahvon Quinerly. Overall, I thought we did just a really good job of making the simple play tonight and not complicating it too much."
In addition to Edwards, John Buggs III sank four 3-pointers and scored 12 points and dished out a career-high four assists.
Rondel Walker scored a season-high 10 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and had a team-high five assists.
UNT led by as many as 15 points and led for the final 23 minutes of action.
North Texas has a quick turnaround as they travel to UAB on Sunday for a 2 p.m. CT tip from Birmingham, Alabama. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
