Tennis Grabs 4-2 Road Win over UCA

UNT wins second straight match in Conway
DENTON, Texas – In a match that took nearly seven hours to complete due to inclement weather, the UNT women's tennis team showed grit and fight throughout the lineup to pick up a 4-2 victory on the road against Central Arkansas Friday.
The Mean Green won the doubles point and picked up singles victories from Stanislava Shulzhenko, Lou Chalard and Lilly Schultz to win their second straight match.
The win for UNT was its first true road victory of the season and improves its overall record to 6-3 on the year.
In doubles play, Chalard and Schultz were strong on line two, winning their matchup 6-3.
After UCA picked up a win at line three to even the match, Olivia Halvorsen and Nformi Stadfany found themselves down 4-0 and were able to rally from behind for a thrilling 7-6 (8-6) win at line one to give the Mean Green the doubles point.
UNT has now won the doubles point in seven of its nine matches this season.
In singles play, Shulzhenko was dominant at line two, winning her match 6-0, 6-0 to put UNT up 2-0.
The Bears were able to tie the match 2-2 with wins at lines one and four, but Chalard put the Mean Green back on top with a strong win at line three. The freshman from Cagens-sur-Mer, France, won 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) to make the score 3-2.
Playing for the match-clinching point, Schultz was able to give UNT the win with a 6-4, 6-1 win at line six.
Carolina Laydner was also on her way to victory, on top 6-1, 4-2 at line five before the match was clinched.
North Texas will now return to Denton for four straight home matches, starting with a contest against FIU on Friday, Feb. 23, at 2:30 PM at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
