Men finish eighth, women ninth at AAC Indoor Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UNT track & field team was led by individual champions Sukeil Foucha and KeAyla Dove at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama over the weekend.
Dove became the first multiple-time conference champion for the UNT women since Chastity Stewart won conference titles in 2014 and 2016. After winning the Conference USA Outdoor Championships last season, Dove earned her second first-team all-conference honor at UNT with a record-breaking shot put throw Saturday. Her sixth attempt went 18.24 meters, marking the No. 3 throw in the NCAA this season, while breaking her own school and conference record and setting a new AAC Championships meet record.
On the men's side, Foucha clocked a personal-best time of 1:49.93 to improve upon his own school record and claim gold in the 800 meters. He is the first UNT male to win an indoor individual conference title since 2021 and the first 800 meters champion since Temitayo Harriman in 2008.
Allison Stigarll also earned all-conference honors taking third place in the women's weight throw. A Little Rock transfer, Stigarll surpassed her previous personal best four times in her first five throws of the event. Her sixth and final attempt was launched 19.25 meters, shattering the school record of 18.33 meters that was set by Haley Walker at the CUSA Championships in 2020.
Other point scorers for North Texas include Kendahl Tucker who placed seventh in the women's 400 meters and Jake Parchman who placed fourth in men's weight throw. Both Samir Williams and Jared Johnson reached the finals of the 60 meters placing sixth and seventh in the event.
The UNT men finished in eighth place with 35.5 points, while the women came in ninth place with 35 points.
Dove will continue her indoor season at the NCAA Championships March 8-9 in Boston, Mass., while the rest of the Mean Green will prepare for the outdoor season that begins in Denton March 15-16.
