DENTON, Texas – UNT women's basketball (20-7, 10-5 AAC) aims to tie the program record for single-season wins when it hosts East Carolina (15-11, 8-7 AAC) Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. CT inside The Super Pit.
The Mean Green defeated UAB in Birmingham, 95-77, their last time out behind double doubles from DesiRay Kernal and Tommisha Lampkin. They collected their 20th victory of the season, marking the first time a UNT team has won 20 games in the regular season.
Kernal's 24-point, 13-rebound performance with seven assists and zero turnovers was her third double double in-a-row. She also became the first player since 2014 to post a stat line of 20+ points,10+ rebounds, seven assists and zero turnovers, while shooting 75% or better from the field. It was Lampkin's second consecutive double double and 10th of the season.
UNT's 95 points marked the most points scored in a conference game by an AAC team this season and was the most scored by a UNT team against a conference foe since 2016 when it scored 97 in an overtime loss to Rice.
The Mean Green enter Tuesday's game looking to keep pace with Temple at the top of the conference standings. The Owls lead UNT and Tulsa by one game, heading into the final three games of the season.
East Carolina will come to Denton after snapping a three-game losing streak Saturday in its victory over SMU. The Pirates are led by the preseason player of the year in the conference, Danae McNeal, who averages 20.5 points per game and leads the conference in steals.
Tuesdays game will be streamed on ESPN+ with John Liddle and Brian Burton on the call. The game can also be heard on the Varsity Sports Network with Zac Babb and Michelle Brooks.
