NEW ORLEANS — The UNT men's basketball team defeated Tulane on the road Wednesday night 80-76 at the Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Mean Green (15-12, 8-7) had five different players score in double figures as they defeated the Green Wave (13-14, 4-11) for a second time this season.
"I'm really proud of our team," said North Texas head coach Ross Hodge. "We have a lot of respect for Tulane and of course coach Hunter. They're a tough team but I felt we executed a lot better tonight."
The Mean Green were led in scoring Wednesday by wing Aaron Scott who scored 19 points to go along with a career-high six assists. Rubin Jones, who did not play due to injury the last time these two teams met, scored 16 points and also dished out six assists. Jones and Scott combined for four steals and three blocks in the win.
Jason Edwards poured in 13 points as he scored his 500th point of the season, becoming just the 21st different North Texas player to reach that scoring mark in a single season. CJ Noland and Robert Allen combined for 21 points as they were clutch at the free throw line making nine of their 12 attempts.
Defensively North Texas held Tulane to just five first half field goals. However, the Green Wave were able to keep it close by getting to the free throw line. Twenty-three of Tulane's 76 points were scored at the free throw line — 14 came in the first half.
Next up for UNT is a home game versus East Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. The Mean Green beat ECU 60-59 on the road on Jan. 17. Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
UNT has just three games remaining before the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship in Fort Worth begins on March 13. Tickets to the conference championship can be purchased here.
