Women's Golf Wraps Up Play at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. - The UNT women's golf team completed its first event of the spring season on Monday with an even-par 288 to finish tied for 12th with UNCW at 8-over par.
The Mean Green rebounded from a rough opening round on Saturday to shoot 2-under par over the final two days while the entire field dealt with wrenches being thrown in the event schedule, as it was originally set to begin on Sunday and end Tuesday but a rainy forecast Sunday led to the tournament starting a day early without a practice round.
UNT was led by senior Emilie Ricaud for a third consecutive day as she finished the event tied for 21st with a 73-70-72 to put her at 1-under for the event. She was followed by freshman Bouquet Subsomboon, who finished tied for 31st at even-par.
"I am certainly not happy with our finish at UCF but understand what we need to do next week," head coach Michael Akers said. "I am proud of our players for never complaining during the many schedule changes that were thrown at them this week. We take great pride in being prepared, but we were not prepared this week. We have a couple of key players that came into the spring season not ready for this competition and will do our best to get them up to speed. We missed Shreya (Pal) in our lineup this week, but I think she is committed to getting back there."
The Mean Green have a quick turnaround to the next event as they will head to The Bahamas for the Nexus Collegiate, which runs from Feb. 12-14 and is hosted by Texas Tech.
"We are very fortunate to have a great relationship with the Texas Tech program and grateful to be invited to their event in The Bahamas next week," Akers said. "We are going to take six players, so that will be good to give an extra person tournament experience."
