The UNT women's golf team will head to paradise to take on a strong field in The Bahamas for its second event of the spring season.
Â
THE EVENT: Albany Golf Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,544 yards. The teams will play 18 holes per day, beginning on Monday and concluding on Wednesday with the final round. There will be tee times beginning at 6:45 a.m., on Monday and Tuesday and a 7 a.m. shotgun start for Wednesday's final round.
Â
THE FIELD:Â There are 11 teams participating in the tournament: Boston College, No. 29 Houston, Illinois, Iowa State, No. 37 Kentucky, No. 35 Michigan, No. 28 Mississippi State, host Texas Tech, No. 45 Tulsa, No. 46 UNT and UTSA.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT:Â Competing for the Mean Green will be Ellie Roth, Shreya Pal, Bouquet Subsomboon, Katharina Anglett and Emilie Ricaud. Mason Lewis will compete as an individual.
Â
RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on GolfStat. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each day.
AKERS SAYS: "The golf course that we are playing is amazing," head coach Michael Akers said. "It hosts the Hero World Challenge and many other top events. We are doing our best this week to prepare. Shreya is back in the lineup after winning qualifying. She looks to be back in form. The coach at Texas Tech has been good to me for many years. She has always played in my events and always invited us to her events. There are only 11 teams so it is a privilege to be invited. For the ladies this is an incredible trip that they will remember for a long time. Recruits look closely at tournament schedules and we can offer great competition and an opportunity to play incredible courses."
MOVING UP: UNT has made significant strides since Akers took over eight years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are now consistently ranked in the top 50 nationally and have qualified for three straight NCAA Regionals on the heels of three straight conference championships.
UP NEXT:Â The Mean Green head to The Chevron Collegiate in Humble, Texas, on Feb. 26-27.Â
Â
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to have the new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, which is a $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
