Childers Honored as AAC Pitcher of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Sophomore Mackenzie Childers was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Childers recorded two complete-game wins with 26 strikeouts over three appearances in the circle. On Friday, she set a new career high with 13 strikeouts over 7.0 innings at UTSA. The Arkansas product held opponents to a .172 batting average against and recorded a 10.11 strikeout per seven rate over 18 innings of work.
Senior Kalei Christensen garnered AAC Honor Roll recognition and became the fourth player to be placed on the weekly list this season, including Childers on Feb. 26. Christensen accumulated a .455 (5-for-11) batting average with four runs, five RBI and one home run. She recorded a perfect fielding percentage with 33 putouts and one assist behind the plate.
Childers is the first UNT player to win a weekly conference award since Ashley Peters (2022-23) was awarded Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors on May 1, 2023.
