Mean Green Take Down Tarleton State 6-1

UNT hands Texans second loss of the season
STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Facing off with an opponent that had just one loss on the year coming into the matchup, the UNT women's tennis team asserted its dominance with a strong 6-1 victory over Tarleton State Tuesday afternoon at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts.
UNT took the doubles point and five of the six singles matchups, all of which were won in straight sets, to improve to 9-8 on the year and stop a three-match losing skid. Tarleton State, meanwhile, dropped to 9-2 on the season.
The Mean Green started the day by continuing their strong play in doubles this season, winning the doubles point for the 12th time in 17 total matches.
Playing at line three, Olivia Halvorsen and Stadfany Nformi had yet another strong performance with a 6-2 victory. The duo is now 8-3 on the season and have won three of their last four doubles matches.
Moment later at line one, Olivia Malm and Stanislava Shulzhenko picked up a 6-4 victory to improve their record as a duo to 5-2 this season.
Leading 1-0, Malm quickly made the score 2-0 with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 win at line one. The victory was her third of the season and second at line one.
Not to be outdone, Nformi put UNT on top 3-0 with a straight sets win of her own 6-3, 6-3. The sophomore from Doala, Cameroon, is now 7-5 in singles play when playing on line two.
The clinching point for the Mean Green was claimed by Lilly Schultz at line five with a strong 6-3, 6-3 victory to make the team score 4-0. Schultz improved her overall record to 6-3 in singles play and has won each of her last three decided matchups.
With the match in hand, UNT was still not done. Playing at line three, Shulzhenko pushed the score to 5-0 in favor of the Mean Green with a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 win, giving her seven singles victories on the year.
The final win for North Texas came from Lou Chalard playing at line four. Chalard picked up the victory in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 to pull the final tally to 6-1 in favor of UNT. With the win, Chalard now has a team-high eight singles victories on the year.
UNT will now take the next 10 days off before returning to the courts on Friday, March 29, to take on Rice in Houston at 1:00 PM.
