UNT set to face off against Rice and No. 42 Charlotte this weekend
HOUSTON – After a 10-day hiatus from matches, the UNT tennis team is back in action Friday and Saturday as they head to Houston to take on Rice and No. 42 Charlotte at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Coming off a strong victory over Tarleton State where they handed the Lady Texans just their second loss of the season, the Mean Green will look to continue to climb in the ITA rankings heading into the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Mean Green have had a balanced attack in dual action all season with five different players winning at least six singles matches on the season, led by an 8-5 mark from Lou Chalard.
In doubles play, UNT has taken the doubles point 12 times in 17 total matches this season, including five of the last six matchups. The combination of Olivia Halvorsen and Stadfany Nformi have combined to go 8-3 in doubles matches to lead the way for the Mean Green.
The weekend will kick off Friday when UNT takes on Rice in a true road matchup.
The Owls head into the matchup 6-8 overall this season while facing off against tough competition. Through 14 matches, Rice has already taken on six ranked opponents including No. 11 Texas A&M and No. 12 San Diego.
In those six matchups, the Owls have garnered a pair of wins over No. 61 UTSA and No. 69 UNLV.
Federica Trevisan leads the way for Rice in singles play posting an 8-4 record while playing exclusively at line one this spring.
Charlotte, meanwhile, comes into the weekend as the highest-ranked team in The American with a 14-6 overall record.
Despite dropping their last matchup against No. 57 South Florida, the 49ers have won six of their last seven matches, highlighted by a win over No. 43 SMU last Friday.
The 49ers are led by Lucia Quiterio who has posted an impressive 12-3 mark in singles play, competing exclusively at line one singles.
