Armando Acevedo and Kendall Adams win events at Texas A&M
DENTON, Texas – The UNT track and field team combined for two champions and a broken school record across two meets as the Mean Green split up at the Texas A&M Invitational and the Victor Lopez Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The majority of the North Texas team traveled to College Station to compete on Saturday, while the men's and women's distance runners were at the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice University.
Zion Hill set a school record in the men's javelin in his season debut. His second attempt of the day traveled 74.95 meters, which overtook his previous best mark of 74.09 meters from the 2021 Conference USA Championships.
Jake Parchman competed unattached at the Texas A&M Invitational but had a sensational meet taking first place in the hammer throw. All six of his throws would have overtaken his own school record had he been affiliated with UNT at the meet with his longest throw being launched 67.03 meters which is the No. 12 throw in the nation this season.
True freshman Armando Acevedo won his second consecutive meet in the high jump clearing 2.05 meters. The Mean Green crowned its second champion of the meet in the women's triple jump to close out the field events Saturday. Kennedy Adams took first place for the first time in her career with a mark of 12.14 meters.
Allison Stigarll and Jordan Coates-McBride each recorded personal bests and runner-up finishes in their respective events. Stigarll's posted a mark of 52.86 meters in the hammer throw, while Coates-McBride clocked a 52.12 in the 400-meter hurdles.
At the Victor Lopez Classic, three North Texas distance runners collected top-10 finishes on Saturday. Sukeil Foucha placed sixth in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 47.42. Luke Canon placed sixth and also clocked a career-best mark of 3:53.19 in the 1,500 meters. Tiblets Abreha led the women's runners with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters.
North Texas will be back in action at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays that begin Wednesday in Austin, Texas.
