AUSTIN, Texas – UNT track and field wrapped up competition at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, led by three third-place finishes.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Justin Walden, Sukeil Foucha, Samir Williams and Jordan Coates-McBride took bronze with a time of 3:16.11 in the event's timed final.
The other two third-place finishers came from a pair of female throwers in Makayla Roy and KeAyla Dove. Roy's mark of 46.59 meters in the javelin throw on her fifth attempt was a season best and is her best throw since the 2022 Texas Relays. Dove made her outdoor season debut in Austin in the shot put although she competed unattached. A throw of 17.97 meters on her second attempt put her in the lead until final throws from Texas' Chrystal Herpin and Louisville's Jayden Ulrich moved them ahead of the Mean Green All-American.
The Mean Green had a total of 19 student-athletes participating against arguably their stiffest competition of the regular season with the Relays being one of the most competitive meets in the country.
"We knew Texas Relays would be a tough meet, but I thought our athletes went out and competed hard," head coach Doug Marshall said. "I wanted to make more finals in a few events but overall I was happy with some of the things we put out there. We still have a lot of work to do to get where we need to be."
A pair of distance runners recorded personal bests to close out Thursday night. Luke Canon clocked a 3:52.45 in the 1,500 meters, while Tiblets Abreha improved her time in the 10,000 meters by over 30 seconds in an eighth-place finish.
Sprinters Jared Johnson and Jaylen Washington also collected personal best times in the men's 100 meters. Johnson took 11th place with a time of 10.30, while true freshman Jaylen Washington clocked a 10.39 for the fastest time of his young career.
Other notable results include China Okoye taking fifth in the women's 400-meter hurdles timed final and Zion Hill finishing fifth in the men's javelin.
North Texas will return from Austin to host the Mean Green Invitational on Saturday, April 6, beginning at 9 a.m. CT at the Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
