IRVING, Texas – Junior Skylar Savage was honored as American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The Van, Texas native tallied two of the three wins in the circle over conference rivals Tulsa, including a complete-game seven inning shutout on Saturday. She held the Golden Hurricane to a .152 batting average while she allowed zero runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Despite three previous all-league accolades in Conference USA, The American honored Savage with the first conference Pitcher of the Week award of her career. She follows Mackenzie Childers as the league's weekly pitcher honoree after Childers won the award on March 18.
Childers and Savage are the second pair of UNT teammates to win conference pitcher of the week honors in back-to-back weeks and first since Hope Trautwein and Janie Worthington did so in May 2019.
Savage currently ranks top-10 in UNT history for 10 different career statistical categories including earned run average, wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.
UNT travels to UT Arlington on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a midweek matchup at Allan Saxe Field. The game will be streamed live on WAC International.
