DENTON — Coming in on a two-game winning streak, the UNT men's basketball team hosts reigning Final Four participant (RV) Florida Atlantic on Wednesday for the final home game of the season.
North Texas (16-12, 9-7) and the Owls (22-7, 12-4) are scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. CT from the Super Pit. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
The Mean Green are riding high as they near the end of the regular season. They've won back-to-back games and have scored 80-plus points in each. It's the first time since 2012 a UNT men's basketball team has scored 80 or more in consecutive games against league opponents.
North Texas this season is 11-1 in games where they score 70 or more points with the only loss coming on Jan. 31 in overtime to UAB, 82-79.
They'll face a highly talented and experienced FAU team on Wednesday that this year returned all but one player from last season's NCAA Tournament Final Four squad. FAU is coming off a 79-73 home win over Tulane and has won four of their last six. All four of the Owls' conference losses this year have been on the road.
Each of the last four meetings between UNT and Florida Atlantic have been decided by four points or less. On Jan. 28 the Owls beat North Texas In Boca Raton 66-63 on a last second shot.
Wednesday's matchup pins two of the American Athletic Conference's top scorers against each other as the Mean Green's Jason Edwards is averaging 21.0 points per game against conference opponents and the Owls Johnell Davis is averaging 19.3 points per conference game.
This will be the final home regular season game for North Texas who enters the contest with an 11-3 record at the Super Pit this year. After Wednesday, UNT travels to Rice on Saturday for its final game before the 2024 AAC Championship in Fort Worth.
