Mean Green win doubles point, but ultimately drop road contest
ARLINGTON, Texas – The UNT women's tennis team took home the doubles point for the 10th time in 14 total dual matches this season but was unable to grab a singles match and fell 4-1 Wednesday afternoon against UTA at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mean Green forced a third set in three of the six singles matches before ultimately dropping contests at lines one, two, three and six. The loss drops North Texas to 8-7 on the season.
The doubles point was a battle throughout at all three lines as UNT took home wins at lines two and three to grab the doubles team point.
Playing at line three, Marina Adati and Lou Chalard evened the doubles point at one apiece with a 6-4 victory. It was the first time the duo played together this spring.
At line two, the combination of Lilly Schultz and Stadfany Nformi picked up a strong 7-5 victory to give the Mean Green the doubles point. Schultz and Nformi have now won back-to-back matches playing together at line two doubles.
In singles play, UTA jumped ahead 3-0 quickly by winning in straight sets at lines one, three and six to take a 3-1 lead.
The Mean Green continued to fight, however, as the remaining three matchups all went to a decisive third set.
Both Lou Chalard and Schultz rallied from down one set to none to force a third set. Unfortunately, however, the match ended before the either match was final.
The Mavericks picked up a win in three sets at line two to ultimately win the match 4-1.
UNT will return to action next week when they head to Palm Springs, California, to take on No. 69 Liberty and Wichita State on Monday and Tuesday.
