AZUSA, Calif. – The UNT track and field team wrapped up its weekend competing in California early Sunday morning at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University was the second of two meets that UNT had multiple athletes competing in. The Mean Green participated in the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday at Long Beach State University, while Connor Bartek stuck around on Friday and won the Beach Invitational's men's 5,000 meters race.
Jared Johnson led the Mean Green with two top-10 finishes in the 100 meters and 200 meters. The senior sprinter set a personal best in the 200 meters with a wind-legal 21.00, which was good enough for a fifth-place finish. He also took eighth in the 100 meters with Samir Williams shortly behind in 19th place.
Fellow senior Kennedy Adams also posted a career best on Saturday. Adams took third in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.58 meters. Vitus Hansgaard placed fifth in the men's javelin and the men's 4x100-meter relay team took second to round out UNT's top-five finishes on Saturday.
With the Bryan Clay Invitational being a two-day meet, a few student-athletes were in action on Friday, including Luke Canon and Allison Stigarll. Canon's time of 1:50.46 in the open 800 meters gave him a top-five finish, was a personal best and is the second-best time in the American Athletic Conference this season.
Stigarll continued to shine in her first year at North Texas setting a personal best for the fourth consecutive week. After claiming the fifth-best throw in school history a week ago, Stigarll topped that with a mark of 57.19 meters Friday and now is the holder of the third-best mark in UNT history.
Up next for UNT will be the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor in Waco, Texas. The meet is set to start on Friday and be completed Saturday afternoon.
