Mean Green Set for 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship

UNT takes on No. 13 East Carolina in opening round match Wednesday at 10:00 AM
DENTON, Texas – The UNT tennis team is set to compete in the American Athletic Conference Championship for the first time in program history starting this Wednesday at Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex against No. 13 East Carolina at 10:00 AM.
The Mean Green earned the No. 12 seed in the tournament and will play on the opening day of the tournament against the Pirates with a chance to move on to the second round where a matchup with No. 5 South Florida awaits.
UNT will be looking to continue a strong trend in postseason play as it has won at least one match in 14 of the last 15 conference tournaments it has played in (C-USA: 8, Sun Belt: 6).
North Texas heads into the championship at 11-12 overall this season. The Mean Green closed the regular season with an impressive 7-3 record at home and won the regular season finale over Temple in thrilling fashion 4-3.
UNT has been strong in doubles play all season, winning the doubles point 15 times in 23 matches on the year. The Mean Green have done this despite not having a consistent lineup all season having played 12 different doubles combinations in dual play.
In single action, the balanced attack for UNT has continued to shine with four different players having double digit victories in dual play on the year.
Stadfany Nformi leads the way with an 11-7 record while Lou Chalard, Carolina Laydner and Stanislava Shulzhenko all have 10 wins apiece.
East Carolina currently sits at 11-7 overall this season and have yet to play a match against an AAC opponent. The Pirates and Mean Green do not share a common opponent this season.
Statistically, ECU is led by Ines Bachir who is currently 8-4 in singles action on the year with an impressive 6-3 mark at line one.
In doubles play, the Pirates have been on the opposite side of the coin of the Mean Green with only five different combinations in 14 matches on the year.
