The senior transfer played in 81 games over three seasons at Louisiana Tech
DENTON, Texas – Former Louisiana Tech Lady Techster Amaya Brannon has become the first Division I transfer to join Jason Burton's 2024 signing class for UNT women's basketball.
Brannon brings a veteran presence to UNT having played in 81 games with 46 starts over her three seasons in Ruston. She averaged 6.4 points per game in her Louisiana Tech career and scored in double figures 21 times, including in a career-high outing of 18 points against Louisiana Monroe in 2022.
"Amaya brings in a ton of experience and some much needed shooting to our roster," Burton said. "We are excited to bring talent from the metroplex area back to North Texas. She's going to be a great fit here."
A native of Plano, Texas, Brannon became the 13th true freshman to start the season opener for the Techsters since the 2000-01 season. She appeared in all 33 games that year and averaged 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
She increased her output as a sophomore with 7.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game during the 2022-23 campaign.
The 2023-24 season saw Brannon appear in 23 games and make four starts despite missing the first 10 games due to injury. While playing reduced minutes, Brannon averaged 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. She shot 39.2% from the floor and converted 40% of her 3-point attempts, which was the second-best percentage from deep in Conference USA.
Also a standout in the classroom, Brannon was named to the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll twice and also a CUSA Academic Medalist in the 2021-22 year.
The former metroplex star lettered all four years at Plano Senior High School. She earned all-district honors in each of her four years, including spots on the first team as a junior and senior.
