
MBB Signs Transfer Guard Latrell Jossell

DENTON — Elite shooting veteran transfer guard Latrell Jossell has signed with the UNT men's basketball team.
Jossell comes to North Texas after playing his last three seasons at Stephen F. Austin. In those three years he made 192 3-pointers and shot 39 percent from deep. A 2020 graduate from nearby Keller Central High School where he was a 3-star prospect and ranked as a top 15 player in the state, Jossell played his freshman season at Kansas before transferring to SFA. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-1 guard who born in Chicago has played in exactly 100 collegiate games and has scored 1,024 career points.
In his three seasons at SFA, Jossell led the Lumberjacks to 59 total wins (19.6 per year) and the 2022 Western Athletic Conference regular season title as they went 14-4 in league play.
Last season, Jossell led SFA in scoring as he averaged nearly 13 points per contest, scoring a career-high 380 total points in 30 games played. He knocked down a team-high 52 3-pointers and led the team with 103 made free throws at an 83 percent clip. For his career, Jossell is shooting 85 percent at the free throw line (197-232).
Jossell scored in double figures 20 times last season including 14 of his final 15 games played. He had five 20-point games. He was 5-5 from deep in a 23-point performance against Cal Baptist on Jan. 27.
For his career, Jossell has made five or more 3-pointers seven times.
He is also a tremendous defender. He has 117 career steals and led SFA last season with 48.
Jossell moved from Chicago to Keller as a high school freshman. In four years at Keller Central, Jossell amassed 204 3-pointers and shot 36.6 percent from deep. He dished out 207 assists and had 194 steals. He played for Marcus Smart's YCG36 AAU team with future Kansas teammate Jalen Wilson.
Jossell missed most of his high school senior year due to an injury but as a junior averaged 18.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
North Texas is coming off a 19-win season under first-year head coach Ross Hodge where they reached the second round of the NIT. He was the only rookie head coach last year to lead his respective team to either the NCAA Tournament or NIT. The Mean Green won 10 league games in their first season in the American Athletic Conference. It was the most league wins by a first-year UNT head coach. UNT is one of just seven schools in the country who has won a NCAA postseason game in each of the last four seasons.
