Mean Green split pair of matches on the day
NORMAN, Okla. – The UNT women's golf team split a pair of contests in match play, falling to No. 54 Tulsa before taking down No. 56 Texas Tech to earn third place in The Match Play at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
The Mean Green defeated the Red Raiders 3-1-1 to finish in third place in the event consisting of five Big 12 schools and three American Athletic Conference opponents.
"This week was fun with a format we have not seen," head coach Michael Akers said. "We had some pressure to perform during stroke play as it counts toward the national rankings. We again prove we can play with anyone. I have thoroughly enjoyed Big 12 teams for over 17 years. We should have confidence heading down to Florida for the AAC Championships."
In the match against Texas Tech, No. 47 UNT picked up victories from Emilie Ricaud (4 and 3), Shreya Pal (2 and 1) and Ellie Roth (2 and 1) to earn the win.
In addition, Mason Lewis finished tied in her matchup through 18 holes.
In the first matchup of the day, UNT took on the No. 2 seed Tulsa in a match that was not decided until the final hole.
The Mean Green ultimately fell in the contest 3-2 after dropping the deciding match on the final hole of the round.
Pal gave UNT its first win of the day in dominant fashion, winning 6 and 5. Roth added another win to the tally for the Mean Green with a 3 and 2 victory.
North Texas returns to action next Monday, April 15 when they compete in the American Athletic Conference Championship. The event will be played across three days at Southern Hills in Brooksville, Fl.
