
DesiRay Kernal Signs with Greece's Pas Giannena

DENTON, Texas – Former UNT women's basketball player DesiRay Kernal will continue her playing career overseas after signing with Pas Giannena in Greece on Wednesday.
She wrapped up her collegiate career scoring over 1,700 points and collecting 981 rebounds. Kernal proved to be successful at every level she played at, winning 105 games in her career between her four seasons at Texas A&M-Commerce and her lone season in Denton.
A native of Newton, Kansas, Kernal recorded one of the best seasons in recent memory at North Texas while leading the Mean Green to the program's winningest season ever and first conference title since 1986. She averaged 16.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game during the 2023-24 campaign. She also posted 12 double doubles on the season, which was tied for third in the American Athletic Conference.
Kernal received a plethora of postseason accolades during her time at UNT, including being recognized as an All-AAC First Team selection. The standout forward was also a unanimous selection to the conference's newcomer team and was named the AAC Co-Newcomer of the Year along with USF's Romi Levy.
Kernal will join a Pas Giannena team that plays in the A1 League in Greece. The team went 8-12 during the 2023-24 season.
