IRVING, Texas – Second baseman Mikayla Smith and right-handed pitcher Skylar Savage were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Conference first team, the league announced on Tuesday.
The pair were each awarded their second all-conference selection and first placement on the first team. Smith was named second team All-Conference USA in 2023 while Savage claimed second team All-CUSA honors as a freshman in 2022.
The Mean Green marked the sixth season in which it has placed multiple players on its respective league's all-conference first team and the fourth under head coach Rodney DeLong. Last season, three players were named to the All-CUSA first team.
As a senior, Smith is amid a breakout season as she has collected career high marks with 47 hits, 24 runs scored, 11 home runs, 31 RBI and is hitting for a .329 batting average. For the season, she sits inside the top 10 with her home run tally and .636 slugging percentage.
Smith is two games away from becoming the 15th player in program history to play in 200 contests at UNT. She sits 10th with 26 career home runs and is tied for eighth for defensive assists and double plays turned.
Over the conference slate, Savage had the league's second-lowest earned run average at 1.85 over 68 innings pitched and 44 strikeouts. She is on the UNT career pitching leaderboard in 10 statistical categories including wins, ERA, strikeouts and innings pitched.
