DENTON, Texas – Entering its second season as a member of the American Athletic Conference, UNT volleyball and head coach Kristee Porter released its 2024 schedule on Friday.
The Mean Green are set for an 11-match home schedule including the UNT Invitational versus Colorado, Rutgers and NCAA Tournament participant Miami on Aug. 30-Sept. 1. In total, North Texas will play 27 matches including nine contests against opponents that finished inside the top 100 in RPI last season.
The season opens with the UNT Invitational on Aug. 30 versus Colorado before hosting Rutgers (Aug. 31) and Miami (Sept. 1) to finish the weekend.
Before beginning conference play, the Mean Green will travel to Maryland (Sept. 6-8), UNLV (Sept. 13-14) and Florida (Sept. 20-21) for non-league action.
UNT opens its American Athletic Conference slate at UTSA on Sept. 27 before returning home for a home league clash against Tulane on Sept. 29.
After a three-match road trip to Charlotte (Oct. 4), East Carolina (Oct. 6) and Rice (Oct. 11), North Texas will welcome four-consecutive league opponents beginning with UTSA on Oct. 13 and culminating with 2023 AAC East Division champions South Florida on Oct. 25.
The regular season closes with three of four matches at home including Florida Atlantic (Nov. 8), Wichita State (Nov. 15) and the final match of the year versus Rice (Nov. 17).
The American Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship tournament will be held on Nov. 22-24 on the campus of Wichita State University. The conference championship tournament will mark the third in the league's history and first since the 2020-21 season.
Last year, UNT finished with a 17-16 record to cap its seventh-consecutive season at or above a .500 winning percentage. Porter became the third coach in program history to open her UNT career with back-to-back winning seasons and first since 2014.
The Mean Green posted 11 wins in conference play to mark the highest debut tally in program history and first double-digit total in such years.
Porter returns 10 players from last season's roster including 2022 second team all-conference performer Aryn Johnson and senior middle blocker Truli Levy. Johnson finished with 339.5 points and 294 kills while Levy recorded the second-highest block total in The American with 133 stops.
