CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The UNT women's golf team had five players named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar list, which was announced this week.
Seniors Shreya Pal and Emilie Ricaud, along with sophomore Mason Lewis and freshmen Bouquet Subsomboon and Katharina Anglett were all named to the prestigious list, which has some of the most stringent criteria for selection in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and a participation threshold of more than half of the team's tournaments from the past season. The five honorees ties the program record for most in a year.
"It is very exciting to see five of our student-athletes named to the All-American scholar team," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "We place an emphasis on academics within our program. In reality, 90% of our team has a cumulative GPA over 3.5, but we usually only take five players to an event so that makes it difficult to participate in 50% of the competition dates. I am very proud of the sacrifices our team members make to be elite in the classroom and on the golf course. Most of them want to play pro golf but if that doesn't work out they are prepared for other careers."
The team made the move to the American Athletic Conference this past season after winning three straight Conference USA Championships in its final three years in C-USA. The Mean Green once again earned a bid to the NCAA Regionals as the only team in The American with a streak of four straight Regional bids. They finished the year at the Bermuda Run Regional in North Carolina and ended the year ranked No. 51 in the final Scoreboard/Clippd national poll.
Ricaud, who is the first player in program history to make the lineup for four straight NCAA Regionals, led the team in stroke average and, along with Pal and Lewis, made the All-AAC team to give the Mean Green four selections on the team - the most of any program in the conference.
