DENTON — The UNT soccer team prepares to host Texas Southern on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT and Prairie View A&M on Sunday at noon CT at the Mean Green Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Mean Green (0-2) are 8-1-0 all-time versus TSU and PVAM combined. They last played Texas Southern in 2019 and won 7-0. They last played Prairie View A&M in 2010 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and won 6-0.
Head coach John Hedlund enters Thursday's match just seven wins shy of his 400th career victory. When he reaches that mark he will become just the 20th women's soccer coach to reach 400 wins. He ranks 10th among active head coaches in career wins.
TSU (1-1) opened its season with a 1-0 victory over UTRGV on the road. They lost this past Sunday at SMU, 6-0.
PVAM (1-0) also won its season opener as they defeated North American 2-1 at home. They'll host Incarnate Word on Thursday before traveling to Denton.
TSU head coach Kendall Ayers played at Louisiana Tech from 2015-16. Thursday will be her second trip to UNT as she started for a Lady Techster side that lost 3-1 to the Mean Green in the 2016 regular season finale. Ayers had two shot attempts. The win for UNT clinched the 2016 Conference USA regular season championship.
