DENTON, Texas – Senior Coco Gillett posted UNT career high of 16 kills as UNT volleyball dropped its first match of the season 3-2 versus Colorado on Friday at The Super Pit.
"We're asking Coco to do a lot," head coach Kristee Porter said. "But I think she did a really good job of managing the entire match. She gives you everything she has … which is one of the great things about Coco."
The Super Pit hosted its first Mean Green (0-1) volleyball match since 1979 with the five-set thriller (26-28, 25-20, 25-27, 25-21, 11-15) against the Buffaloes (1-0) with 821 in attendance, the second-largest crowd in program history.
Gillett also finished with the highest hitting percentage mark of her UNT career at .361 on 36 attacks and collected 10 digs for her first double-double of the season.
In total, three UNT players collected double-doubles with Aryn Johnson at 18 kills, 12 digs and Alexa Washington at 15 assists, 10 digs. The first time more than two players have reached the mark since Johnson combined with Ceci Harness (2022-23) at Wichita State on Nov. 4, 2023.
Libero Madison Scrivner becomes the third true freshman to start for Porter at UNT and first since Victoria Fontenot on Sept. 3, 2022. As the starting libero, Scrivner led the Mean Green with 18 digs in her collegiate debut. She added five assists and one service ace.
UNT held Colorado to a .196 hitting percentage while four Mean Green players finished above .300 including transfer additions Priscilla Jones (.333) and Payton Van Veen (.400) in their respective debuts.
