MANHATTAN, Kan. - The UNT women's golf team claimed runner-up honors on Tuesday at the season-opening Powercat Classic at Colbert Hills Golf Club.
UNT shot 1-over par on the day to finish second to host Kansas State and 20 shots up on third-place Jacksonville State, thanks to a trio of top-15 finishers and all five players finishing in the top 20 individually.
The Mean Green were led by Malisone Chanthapanya and Bouquet Subsomboon, who both tied for seventh place at 5-over par. Mason Lewis finished one shot back of them to finish tied for 13th, and Shreya Pal and Katharina Anglett tied for 16th at 8-over par. Subsomboon led the way on Tuesday with a 1-under 71 to pace the Mean Green in the final round.
"It is always good to start the season with a trophy," head coach Michael Akers said. "K-State is hard to beat on their home course, but we picked up 14 wins, which was the entire point of this event. I saw some good things and also some things we will work on heading into OU. Mali certainly showed she belongs at this level, and Kat had two solid rounds."
The Mean Green will be back in action Sept. 21-23, when they head to Norman, Oklahoma, for the Schooner Fall Classic.Â
