Priscilla Jones wins first weekly honor, Aryn Johnson boasts AAC Honorable Mention selection
DENTON, Texas – Senior middle blocker Priscilla Jones was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Jones became the first UNT player to win conference defensive player of the week since Aleeyah Galdeira (2019-23) won the same award in Conference USA on Oct. 31, 2022.
The Austin-native led The American with 10 blocks over seven sets and added 11 kills in a pair of conference wins over UTSA and Tulane. Jones posted five blocks, including a solo stop, in a three-set sweep over the Green Wave on Sunday.
Outside hitter Aryn Johnson collected her first weekly honorable mention selection after she led the Mean Green to a pair of conference wins with 21 kills over seven sets. Johnson finished with 26.0 points, 14 digs, six blocks and two aces against UTSA and Tulane.
Johnson joins junior Payton Van Veen as the second UNT player named to the weekly honorable mention list this season.
The Mean Green travel to North Carolina for a two-match conference weekend at Charlotte on Friday and ECU on Sunday. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
