
Volleyball Collects First Win, Downs TSU in Four

HOUSTON – UNT volleyball secured its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Texas Southern on Wednesday at H&PE Arena.
The Mean Green (1-3) snapped a seven-match losing streak that dates back to Nov. 17, 2023, with the four-set victory (25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-16) over the Tigers (0-3) on Wednesday.
UNT won the first set comfortably before it fell behind by six points, 1-7, early in the second frame and were unable to gain the lead. The Mean Green remained unbalanced until outside hitter Coco Gillett tallied four of five kills at the midway point of the third to build a 17-14 lead that would hold through the end of the frame.
Opposite hitter Payton Van Veen owned the fourth set as she recorded five kills and an ace in the frame to give the Mean Green a wire-to-wire set win to clinch the match.

The Mean Green fly to the nation's capital for the Maryland Tournament beginning on Friday against Georgetown at 3 p.m. CT. UNT will face Hampton on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT on the campus of Georgetown before it closes the weekend versus the Terrapins on Sunday at noon CT on B1G+.
