Women’s Basketball Starts Key Homestand Against USF Saturday
1/10/2025 11:29:00 AM | Women's Basketball
DENTON, Texas – UNT women's basketball (11-5, 3-1 AAC) will host the preseason favorite in the AAC, South Florida (11-6, 4-0 AAC), on Saturday in what will be the first of three home games in seven days.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT at The Super Pit. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call and can also be heard on the Varsity Network App with Zac Babb.
The teams will meet for the first time in The Super Pit and just the third time ever. North Texas went to Tampa and took down USF, 65-61, on Jan. 20, 2024, in what was a key victory for the program in Jason Burton's first season. Tommisha Lampkin posted 19 points and eight rebounds in the game, while Shamaryah Duncan put the game on ice with 3-pointers on consecutive possessions late in the fourth quarter.
UNT and USF were the top two teams in the AAC Preseason Coaches Poll before the start of the season. South Florida was projected to win the league, garnering 135 total votes, while North Texas was tied for second with Rice at 124 votes but received three first-place tallies to the Owls' two.
Entering Saturday's game, both teams sit among the conference's leaders four games into the league slate.
UNT suffered its first loss in conference play Wednesday at Tulane. The Mean Green erased an 18-point halftime deficit, but fell short in a 65-62 loss. Meanwhile, South Florida is playing arguably the best basketball of anyone in the conference as of late, riding a six-game win streak into Denton. The Bulls and UTSA are the only remaining teams without a conference loss.
The Mean Green's homestand will begin with South Florida on Saturday, with Rice and Wichita State coming to Denton later in the week.
