DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team is set to wrap up a three-game home stand when it hosts Wichita State Saturday at 2 p.m. inside The Super Pit.
North Texas has won the first two games of the stretch, handing South Florida its first conference loss of the season on Jan. 11 and taking down Rice, 61-53, Wednesday night. The Mean Green sit at 13-5 overall and in second place in the conference standings at 5-1.
Against the Owls, UNT blocked 11 shots, tying the school record that was set on Jan.1, 2021. Jaaucklyn Moore had five blocks of her own, which is tied for the fifth-most by a single player in a game at UNT and marks the first player with five rejections since Tommisha Lampkin in 2022. The Mean Green were able to hold Rice to its second lowest scoring total of the season, while the offense overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to secure the win.
Wichita State enters Saturday's contest on a three-game skid following their lone conference win of the season on Jan. 4 at UAB. The Shockers have lost to South Florida, UTSA and Tulane during the stretch to fall to 1-5 in AAC play.
UNT won the first meeting of the season between the teams on Dec. 29 in Wichita to open the conference slate. The Mean Green were led by an 11-point, 14-rebound double double from Lampkin and a great game from Desiree Wooten. Her stat line of 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals has only been done by two other players this season.
Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Austyn Iven on the call. It can also be heard on the Varsity Network App with Zac Babb.
