The win marked the 600th win in program history
BOCA RATON, Fla. — UNT women's basketball (15-5, 7-1 AAC) clinched the 600th win in program history with a 73-61 victory over Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon in Boca Raton.
The Mean Green delivered an early blow to the Owls behind 11 first-quarter points from Jaaucklyn Moore that matched FAU's total. Moore started 4-of-4 from 3-point land, while finishing with a team-high 18 points on the day.
UNT shot 51% in the first half on its way to a 43-24 halftime lead. North Texas' 43 points is the most in a first half since scoring 46 against Tennessee State on Dec. 4.
"Our girls were ready to get the game started and I think that showed with the energy and effort on both ends," head coach Jason Burton said. "When the 3-pointers start going in for us, it's probably going to be a good day and Jaaucklyn Moore provided that for us."
Florida Atlantic battled back into the game in the second half, cutting UNT's lead to 56-51 following a 9-0 run late in the third quarter. The Mean Green responded with a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach.
Aniyah Johnson posted her second double double of the season and fifth of her career in the win finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Desiree Wooten finished behind Moore with 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Tommisha Lampkin reached double figures for the 15th time this season with 11 points.
The Mean Green improved to 7-1 in AAC play for the second consecutive season and the third time in program history. They will return home for a matchup with Temple on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 6:30 p.m. CT.
