DENTON - The UNT soccer team will play its regular-season finale on Thursday night against UAB in a must-win game to qualify for the American Conference Championship tournament next week in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
UNT (6-9-4, 2-4-3) would pull even in the conference standings with UAB (6-5-6, 3-3-3) with a victory on Thursday and would qualify for the eight-team field via head-to-head tiebreaker. If South Florida beats FAU, the Mean Green would go to Florida next week as the 8-seed and face top-seed, and the nation's No. 3 team, Memphis on Monday in quarterfinals. If South Florida loses to or ties FAU, the Mean Green would be the 7-seed, and UAB would be the 8-seed.
UNT has a four-match unbeaten streak going and is 2-1-3 in its last six, with the lone loss coming to aforementioned Memphis. The Mean Green have been without starting goalkeeper Alina Arneth the past two matches, but have seen sophomore Hicks Bishop, the opening day starter in net, step up tremendously with a 1-1 draw at South Florida and a 1-0 shutout win at FAU on Sunday to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Junior midfielder Mia Bernard is the team's leading goal scorer this year with six, and she is tied for the team lead in assists with four alongside senior Rachel Roebuck. Thursday night's match will also mark Senior Night for the program, which will honor seniors Micah Beasley, Summer Brown, Drew Lessert and Peyton Renfro, along with Abi Major and Roebuck, who were both honored in previous seasons but will have their eligibility exhausted after the season.
