DENTON — The 2024 Copa Norte National Champion and Mexican Junior National Team member Siena Nieto signed her national letter of intent with UNT on Wednesday.
The incoming Mean Green freshman has patiently developed into one of her country's top junior golfers. Along with winning the national championship title in 2024, Nieto has competed for her country in international competitions, most recently medaling at the 2025 Junior Americas Cup and competed at the Uswing Mojing Junior World Championship. She won the CONADE nationals championship and claimed individual regional titles as well as reached the podium in LPGA ProAm events.
Born and raised in Cuernavaca, Mexico, outside of Mexico City, Nieto began playing golf around 2016 as a nine-year-old. She persevered through early struggles but just six years later Nieto won her first major tournament at the first stage of the XXI South Zone Tour. An achievement that took her game to the next level as it motivated her to train with more discipline, focus and mental details.
In November of 2024, Nieto took home the Mexican Junior Golf Tour Copa Notre title in dominating fashion as she finished five strokes ahead of her fellow podium finishers. Since then her game has soared as she has been recognized by the Mexican Golf Federation as one of the top junior female golfers.
This calendar year alone so far, Nieto has had 11 top 10 finishes.
Nieto will join the Mean Green next fall and intends on majoring in business from UNT's G. Brint Ryan College of Business and wants to compete on the LPGA Tour once she graduates.
