Washington becomes the ninth player in Division I this season with three or more triple-doubles
DENTON – Alexa Washington led Mean Green volleyball to a 3-1 victory over Tulane with her third triple-double of the season on Friday night at the UNT Volleyball Center.
Washington finished with 12 kills, 21 assists and 14 digs while she added two blocks and one ace. Before this season, no player in program history had ever recorded a triple-double. Washington became the second American Conference player with more than three triple-doubles in a season since 2016 and is one of nine players across Division I this season to reach three.
Washington was in such rarefied air, that she says she did not even realize that she had notched her third triple-double of the season.
"It was a really fun game, and I was just laughing and smiling the whole time," Washington said. "I love to do well and help my team, but really, I just want to win. Whether that's with 10 kills, two kills [or] no kills, I just want our team to be successful."
The Mean Green (21-7, 11-4) reached 11 conference wins for the 10th time in program history with its four-set victory (25-21, 17-25, 25-14, 25-12) over the Green Wave (11-15, 3-12) on Friday. North Texas won the hitting percentage battle .261 to .171 while recording more kills, assists, aces, digs and blocks than Tulane.
"It took us a little while to get going. We have a lot of respect for Tulane after they took us to five [sets] at their place," head coach Dave Fleming said. "We talk about throwing punches and putting pressure on the other team and I think we did that … really well in sets three and four. So, I'm just really proud. We win by out-teaming people, and I think we continued to do that tonight."
In total, six UNT players finished with double-digit points as Washington contributed 14 followed by Loredana Fouonji (13), Reagan Bedell (11.5), Addison Achilles (10.5), Lilly Croshaw (10) and Jahniya Jackson (10).
