Men's Hoops Beats Prairie View For Third Straight Win

DENTON – The UNT men's basketball team beat Prairie View A&M Sunday afternoon 72-69 to win its third straight game and 11th straight at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green (6-2) were led in scoring on Sunday by sophomore Je'Shawn Stevenson who finished with a game-high 23 points to go along with five assists and five rebounds. It was Stevenson's second straight 20-point game. He scored North Texas' final eight points and 10 of its last 12 over the final five minutes.
Junior David Terrell Jr. had a career game as he finished with a season-high 15 points as well as a career-high nine assists. The Mean Green finished with 18 team assists, which was its most since the season opener.
"We didn't have our best stuff, but we found a way to win," said UNT head coach Daniyal Robinson who earned his 71st career win Sunday. "But give Prairie View a ton of credit. They came in here ready to play. I have a ton of respect for coach Smith. But really proud of our guys for the effort and fight and for protecting home court."
Along with Stevenson and Terrell, sophomore Reece Robinson and Josiah Shackleford also finished in double figures. Robinson had 12 points for his third straight game in double figures and Shackleford was 5-of-5 from the floor to finish with 10 points.
Senior Dylan Arnett, who was playing in his 100th career game, grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds in Sunday's win.
With the win, UNT head coach Daniyal Robinson is the first Mean Green head coach since Bill Blakeley in 1975 to win at least six of his first eight games at North Texas.
Next up for UNT is another game at the Super Pit. The Mean Green host Houston Christian on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT.
