
Volleyball Hits 20 Wins, Defeats Temple

The Mean Green collect 20 wins for the first time since 2017, ninth time in program history
DENTON – Mean Green volleyball secured its 20th win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Temple on Sunday afternoon at UNT Volleyball Center. Head coach Dave Fleming will finish the season with the highest winning percentage for a first-year coach in program history.
"I'm just blown away, and all the credit goes to the 16 kids in the locker room right now," Fleming said of the team's 20th win. " They bought in. They've made my life easy. They want to win. They want to work hard. They want to be led, so it just makes my job pretty easy."
North Texas (20-7, 10-4) posted its ninth 20-win season in program history and the first since 2017 with the four-set (25-21, 27-25, 17-25, 25-21) win over the Owls (15-12, 5-8) on Sunday. The Mean Green have won nine of its past 10 American Conference matches and enter the final weekend of the season tied for third place in the league with Tulsa.
Sophomore middle blocker Addison Achilles shined as she recorded a career-high 14 kills on 18 attacks with only one error for a .722 hitting percentage. She ties for the sixth-best hitting percentage mark in the modern scoring era and sets the team's best mark of the season.
In total, four UNT players finished with double-digit kills as Reagan Bedell (14), Lilly Croshaw (11) and Jahniya Jackson (10) joined Achilles. The Mean Green improved to 11-1 in matches in which three or more players hit double-digits in kills.
Senior Alexa Washington tallied 27 assists with six digs and three kills while freshman Sidney Soria distributed 21 assists and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
North Texas began the opening set trailing 14-9 before it built an 8-1 run to take the lead which the Mean Green would not relinquish. Bedell led all scorers in the first set with six points, including four kills and two aces as UNT won the first 25-21.
In the second set, Temple held multiple leads, including at 20-16, before another key 8-1 spell gave the Mean Green set point at 24-21. The Owls fought back with four-consecutive points to counter with its own set point at 25-24 before Croshaw dropped back-to-back kills and Jackson tallied the set winning kill at 27-25.
After a 25-17 third set loss, UNT fell into an 11-6 deficit before roaring back with an 8-2 run which included four unforced attack errors from Temple to take the 14-13 lead. Croshaw and Achilles combined for seven of the final nine kills as UNT secured the victory with a 25-21 win in the fourth.
The Mean Green enter the final weekend of the regular season at the UNT Volleyball Center on Friday at 6 p.m. against Tulane (11-13, 3-10) with streaming coverage on ESPN+. Fans can purchase tickets HERE.
