DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team hosts Santa Clara on Sunday, looking to snap a two-game skid in the final nonconference game of the regular season. Tip-off between the Mean Green and Broncos is set for 2 p.m. CT at The Super Pit.
UNT's offense returned to form in Thursday's contest against Oral Roberts scoring 73 points, which had been a recipe for success under Jason Burton. Entering the day, the Mean Green were a perfect 28-0 when scoring 70 or more points at The Super Pit since the start of the 2023-24 season. However, a second-half comeback from Oral Roberts spoiled the trend as the Golden Eagles knocked down a pair of free throws with 1.9 seconds left to down UNT, 74-73.
Now, North Texas (6-5) has to move on quickly with a 9-3 Santa Clara team coming to Denton. The Broncos are on a three-game win streak and have won six of their last seven to move up to No. 62 in the NET Rankings.
The matchup in the paint between Megan Nestor and Sophie Glancey will be a key to the game as both players lead their teams in scoring and rebounding. Nestor recorded her fifth double double of the season on Thursday and ranks fourth in the country in rebounding, while Glancey ranks No. 10 in blocks per game and is averaging 15.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
The game can be seen on ESPN+ with Owen Simpson and Brian Burton on the call. It can also be heard on the Varsity Network app with Sam Kaman.
