MEMPHIS – The UNT men's basketball team's defense held Memphis Wednesday afternoon to its fewest points in three years and fewest points at home in five years, but the Mean Green came up short at the FedExForum, 57-48.

UNT (9-5) forced the Tigers (6-7) into a season high 20 turnovers Wednesday and sophomore Je'Shawn Stevenson scored a game-high 20 points in the loss. His fifth 20-point game of the year.

"Obviously not the result we wanted but credit to Memphis," said North Texas head coach Daniyal Robinson. "They're a solid team and their depth showed up today. I'm proud of our team's fight and effort even when the shots weren't falling."

The Mean Green went on a 7-0 run late in the game to cut the deficit to single digits and put heat on Memphis but UNT couldn't quite get the final few stops to pull out the win.

North Texas returns home next as they host Tulsa on Sunday at 3 p.m. CT.
